At the University of Latvia from 29th till 30th March an international oral history conference Oral History: Dialog with Society will take place.The conference is devoted to the methodologies of biographical, life narrative, and oral history research, with particular attention to public involvement in the research process – from the gathering of sources to the dissemination of results. Topics for presentations will include research ethics, the connection of oral history to topical and socially sensitive issues and cultural values, as well as innovative forms of publications and projects for public audiences.

The conference is hosted by the Latvian National Oral History Centre of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at the University of Latvia in cooperation with the Association of Oral History Researchers of Latvia Dzīvesstāsts” (Life Story) and the department of History at Stockholm University.

Supported by the Baltic-German University Liaison Office also Dr. Thomas Loer will take part in this conference and give a lecture about a genre of social science data between advances of scientific knowledge and practical empowerment, and how objective hermeneutics can serve both.
